Sad news that comes from Almería. The Spanish of Alquián and all the modest football in the region are in mourning after knowing the death of Raúl Martínez Capel, a 17-year-old young man who was active in the ranks of the Alcan team and of which he was one of its goalkeepers.

The player died this Saturday as reported by his club after suffering a traffic accident last Friday. Raúl was driving a ‘package’ motorcycle when they collided with another car at a junction. The incident has been of fatal consequences for the young man who has not been able to overcome this terrible trance.

The crash occurred around 10:00 p.m. at night while Raúl was with a friend. The youths hit the other vehicle at the intersection between Carretera de Ronda and Calle Altamira. The young goalkeeper was transferred to  Torrecárdenas Hospital after the accident where he has ended up dying.

The impact was brutal and Raúl was thrown several meters, suffering multiple injuries and wounds that seriously endangered his life. He was rushed to the hospital where he was left in an induced coma. Despite the fact that the health services did everything possible both at the scene of the accident and later in the hospital, the injuries suffered have ended up being incompatible with life.

The misfortune of what happened has been twofold since the young man who accompanied Raúl also suffered serious damage in the accident and although he is still alive, he is still in the hospital’s intensive care unit struggling to survive. The impact of the two boys was lethal in the accident.

Broken by tragedy

The plan after knowing the news of the death of Raúl, only 17 years old, is that throughout the afternoon of this Saturday his body will be transferred to the well-known Sol de Portocarrero funeral home. There his family will clothe him for the last goodbye, but also his teammates and members of the board of directors and technical staff of the El Alquián club.

These are very hard moments for this modest football club from Almería that has lost one of its own in the most tragic way possible, without reaction time and abrupt manner. Raúl Martínez was part of the Youth A squad of El Alquián where he had arrived this season, although he lived with his family in Huércal de Almería.

The club wanted to issue a meaningful statement to say goodbye to its player: “From our club, with our president Pedro Soler at the helm, we send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends. He came this season to defend our colors and made his debut with the senior team for their great work and dedication. Rest in peace Raú, always in our heart “. The Almeria entity has also communicated that it suspends all the games this weekend, including the one that Juvenil A was to play tomorrow at four in the afternoon in Vícar.
