The councilor of Vilafranca del Penedès (Alt Penedès) for  ERC and head of the list of Republicans in this municipality, Mònica Hill i Giménez , died this Thursday , at the age of 51 , as a result of the cancer that she had suffered for a few months .

This has been reported by the local section of the party on the social network of Twitter: “We regret to inform you that our companion has left us this afternoon. The council has also echoed the death of the councilor. Apart from issuing a statement about the news, they have also expressed their condolences from the institutional account to Twitter. “We deeply regret the death of Councilor Mònica Hill i Giménez. The Corporation expresses its sincere condolences to her family and friends,” they wrote.

An ERC member since 2011, Hill was a councilor since 2015 . The last two years she has also been a councilor of the Regional Council of l’Alt Penedès.

Hill was a senior technician in Plastic Arts and Design and worked as Coordinator of the  Environmental Education Service  of the Mancomunitat Penedès-Garraf, according to the council.

It also indicates that the political trajectory of the Land Defense Movement began , and later entities such as the  Assemblea d’Unitat Popular , the  Plataforma pel Dret a Decidir and  the  Comissió 11 de Setembre de Vilafranca.

In the associative field, adds the City Council, Hill was a member of the Center’s Neighborhood Association, collaborator of the Coordinadora d’Associacions per la Llengua and of the cultural project Via Fora! .

Activist in the field of the environment and defense of the territory, She was part of the Col·lectiu Ecologista Bosc Verd y d’Ecologistes de Catalunya.

Three days of mourning

After expressing condolences to family and friends, the mayor of Vilafranca, Pere Regull, has decreed three days of official mourning in the municipality. The flags of the Casa de la Vila building will wave at half pole and that of the town hall balcony will wear a black crepe.
