Brent Renaud Died
An American journalist was killed by Russian troops this Sunday (13) while covering the war in Ukraine. The information comes from Kyiv police, according to The Sun.
Brent Renaud, 51, was reportedly shot dead in Irpin, on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital. He previously worked for The New York Times and was wearing an NYT ID badge at the time of the attack, but the outlet said the journalist had not been with the newspaper since 2015.
Another journalist, believed by the police to be a colleague of Renaud’s, was also injured in the same attack, but he has not yet been rescued from the war zone.
“Of course, the profession of journalist is a risk, but American citizen Brent Renaud paid with his life for trying to show the aggressor’s naivety, cruelty, and lack of compassion,” said Andrey Nebitov, Kyiv’s police chief.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Brent Renaud. Brent was a talented photographer and filmmaker who has contributed to the New York Times over the years,” the NYT said in a statement.
