Joseph Sagal and career
Joseph Sagal was a resident of Carroll County and dedicated his life to serving communities and responding to many emergencies over the years alongside various Maryland fire emergencies. He had shown his unwavering dedication to the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company for 13 years in 1995. During his tenure, he earned an esteemed position of tower lieutenant for four years.
Joseph’s enthusiasm extended beyond the PVFC, due to which he served his duties as a firefighter with Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company and also got the position of CO with Butler Volunteer Fire Company and Hereford Volunteer Fire Company.
His leadership expertise gained him the position of executive director of the Maryland Transportation Authority in 2022. He was also in charge of providing executive leadership for the Divisions of Operations, Asset Management and Support Services, Electronic Toll Collection, E-ZPass Operations, Facilities Operations, and Traffic Management and technology/ITS.
He also served as the Authority’s Chief executive officer, where he had a significant influence on the Federal Highway Administration and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
He was nationally recognized due to his profound knowledge of traffic management during highway emergencies.
He was a beloved father of his children Grace and Hailey and a devoted partner to his wife Meredith, who was also a member of Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company. His legacy as a cherished and dedicated member of Pikesville will always provide guidance and inspiration to all co-workers and future members of PVFC.
