The iconic singer died of multi-organ failure at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital, Dr. Pratit Samdani told reporters. She was hospitalized on January 11 after contracting COVID-19.

India declared two days of national mourning and said Mangeshkar would receive a state funeral. The country’s flags would fly at half-staff, public broadcaster Doordarshan said on Twitter.

Lata Mangeshkar Died, admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, was fighting for life for the past 29 days due to a multi-organ failure. 92-year-old Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after being found corona infected. Pratt Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai said that it is with great sadness to inform that Lata Mangeshkar ji passed away at 8.12 am. 28 days after her hospitalization, she died due to multi-organ failure.

Born in 1929, Lata Mangeshkar began her singing career in 1942 after the death in the same year of her father, a popular Indian musical artist, who first introduced her to the world of music when she was a child.

During her professional career, which spanned almost six decades, she recorded the songs for the soundtracks of more than 2,000 Indian films, such as “Mahal”, “Parichay” or “Amar Prem”, which earned him numerous awards for the best playback singer feminine.
