We have sad news for the world of TV and for fans of the top 90s series and movies. ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Top Gun’ actor Clarence Gilyard Jr, who later became a professor of film and theater at the University of Nevada College of Fine Arts in Las Vegas, has died according to a statement from the UNLV, after a long illness.
It has been the school’s film president, Heather Addison, who has dedicated a few words when announcing the actor’s death: ” Every time we asked him how he was, he happily declared that he was ‘Blessed!’ But we are truly the ones that we were blessed to be his colleagues and students for so many years. We love you and will miss you so much, Professor G!”
The cause of death remains unknown, and currently, there are no more details that we know of, but from what is said, the actor was suffering from a long illness, so everything indicates that it was this illness that ended his life at 66 years.
Gilyard made his film debut in 1986’s “Top Gun ,” starring opposite Tom Cruise as F-14 Tomcat radar intercept officer Lt. Marcus “Sundown” Williams. It was easy for Gilyard to adjust to the role, as he was born into a military family and raised on Air Force bases in Hawaii, Texas, and Florida. However, he did not reprise his role for the sequel, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
His film career spanned three decades. Gilyard was also known for playing computer hacker Theo in 1988’s ‘Die Hard’. He also had a starring role as James Trivette on the CBS crime action series ‘Walker, Texas Ranger.’ Remember?
