British Artist and Filmmaker Ian Emes Died at 73

British filmmaker and artist Ian Emes, 73, has passed away. On July 22, 2023, Pink Floyd posted on Facebook that he had passed away.

“Ian Emes, a pioneer of experimental film techniques, artist, writer, animator, and filmmaker best known for his work with Pink Floyd, has passed away. We send our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Richard Wright was drawn to Ian’s striking 1972 animated film French Windows, which featured the spinning clock faces of Pink Floyd’s Time and the heartbeat of Speak To Me. These iconic animations became a staple of the band’s live performances for many years. He also produced a captivating 55-minute clip for Pink Floyd’s The Endless River in more recent years.”

Pink Floyd and the rest of the family and friends express their sorrow over the passing of their beloved. The facts of Ian’s death are not public; however, the family may disclose them later.

The officials and family will soon provide information on the funeral services and other rituals.

1949 saw the birth of Emes in Handsworth, Birmingham. His father, Ronald Walter Emes MBE, was the manager of the British Olympic Canoe Team and the head of the West Midlands Police Federation and a Navy gunner. Olivia, the daughter of Emes, directs movies.

Drawing is the foundation of his technique, and his experience covers both live-action and animation. He has been nominated for an Oscar and has won many prizes, including three BAFTAS.

Fantastic colour comics from the 1950s, like “The Eagle” and “Boys World,” as well as “Flash Gordon” movies screened at “Saturday Morning Minors” at Odeon theatres, are cited by Emes as his initial visual influences.

Following this, Emes pursued a career in film and television, appearing in such projects as The Invisible Man (2000) for Universal Studios, Streetwise (1989), starring Andy Serkis, and How to Be Cool (starring Roger Daltrey), which were all adapted by Emes from works by Philip Pullman (author of The Golden Compass).
