Son of John Christopher Depp, an engineer, and Betty Sue Wells, a waitress. They divorced when he was a teenager. He was the youngest of four siblings.
John Christopher’s family moved to Florida when he was very young. His parents moved house twenty times in the first ten years of his life. His mother remarried Robert Palmer, whom Depp considered “an inspiration.”
When he was twelve years old, his mother gave him a guitar, and after playing in several garage bands, the future actor left his studies at the Miramar (Florida) institute to dedicate himself to music.
He participated in the group The Kids , which became the opening act for Iggy Pop , with whom he would later coincide in the filming of Cry baby ( John Waters , 1990).
