11-year-old Girl Dies After A Truck Collides With A Police Car In The Middle Of A Chase In NY

Monica Goods, a passenger in the van, died at the scene.

NEW YORK – An 11-year-old girl from Brooklyn was killed when the driver of a pickup truck she was in fled a New York State Police traffic stop and ended up, following a chase, in a crash against the police vehicle, authorities said Thursday. The little girl was not wearing a seat belt.

State Police say they tried to stop a Dodge Journey pickup around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, on the Thruway Highway in Ulste, because it was an unspecified vehicle and had a traffic violation. Shortly after starting the stop, the driver sped up, authorities say. At that moment the persecution began.

The State Police truck and car ended up colliding at some point during the chase; the driver of the SUV lost control and the vehicle rolled over.

Monica Goods, a passenger in the van, died at the scene. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Hollis, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. It was unclear if he would face charges in connection with the accident.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation continues.
