Jack Jeffery, an Evesham player, was injured while scoring a try and died hours later in hospital.
The world of rugby has shown its condolences for the tragic loss of the British.
His team has defined Jeffery as a “calm, respected, committed and loyal” ‘clubman’
Jack Jeffery, a young British rugby player, has tragically lost his life this weekend. Jeffery, who played for Evesham, was seriously injured while scoring a try for his team against Berkswell and Balsall in Kenilworth, an English town some 8 kilometers southwest of central Coventry.
He was soon rushed to nearby Walgrave Hospital, where he passed away a few hours later. In a statement, his team, Evesham, called him “too good even for the ‘All Blacks'” and described him as “calm, respected and highly regarded”.
Jeffery, a committed and loyal ‘clubman’.
“It is with immeasurable sadness that we have to report the tragic loss of our beloved Jack Jeffery following our Seniors League match at Berkswell and Balsall. Jack was adding another try to his phenomenal record and during the scoring challenge he was injured.” Evesham explained, adding that “it is hard to find a more committed and loyal ‘clubman’. He often returned from London to train.”
“He served his club, his teammates, and the county of Warwickshire with distinction and brought much satisfaction to the club’s supporters. We have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and goodwill from the rugby community and beyond. We have lost a bright light. As a sign of respect, we are closed today. We fly at half-mast, “they indicated.
Evesham asked to “pray for Jack, his family, loved ones, &friends”, while teams like the Worcester Warriors shared their condolences, saying: “Everyone’s thoughts are with the family, friends, & team-mates of Evesham player Jack. Jeffrey”.
More tributes came from the Worcestershire County Cricket Club and the RFC Worcester, whose president, Steve Lloyd, wanted to send his “deepest condolences” to the family and friends of the victim.
