James Gan Teik Chai, a renowned badminton player from Malaysia, formerly Gan Teik Chai, left the world unexpectedly on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

He died at the age of 40. According to his closest associates, the National badminton champion died after a heart attack.

Teik Chai’s doubles partner Datuk Lee Chong Wei, announced his death news officially in a social media post: “I share the news of the demise of my dear friend, Gan Teik Chi, who I address as Ah Gan, with a heavy and sorrowful heart.

Datuk Chong Wei also wrote about their brief remarkable journey, including a few heart-touching lines in his post:

“Words are inadequate to capture the depth of my sorrow and loss at this moment, I keep listening to the voicemail he just left, promising to be with me in court the following week. That game will no longer exist. Rest in peace, brother.”
