Sister Of Former Foreign Minister María Ángela Holguin Dies In A Traffic Accident

Carolina Holguín was hit by a truck while riding a bicycle between the municipalities of Santa Sofía and Villa de Leiva in Boyacá.

In a traffic accident registered in Villa de Leiva (Boyacá), Carolina Holguín, sister of the former Foreign Minister of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín, died this Saturday.

The Boyacá Police Commander, Colonel Jorge Miguel Cabra Díaz, confirmed that a heavy load vehicle ran over 60-year-old Carolina Holguín Cuellar when she was traveling by bicycle in the sector of kilometer 11 of the Hornillas village, between the municipalities of Villa of Leiva and Santa Sofía.

“At kilometer 11 between the road that leads from the municipality of Villa de Leiva to Santa Sofía in Boyacá, there is a traffic accident where a cyclist loses her life when she collides with a truck-type vehicle, ” she explained.

The colonel confirmed that Carolina Holguín Cuellar lost her life immediately due to the severity of the injuries.  “A group of criminologists assumed as a priority all the urgent acts of technical inspection of the scene, as well as conducting the interviews of the witnesses.”

The officer explained that progress is being made to find out what exactly happened in order to clarify this unfortunate event.

The Villa de Leiva Fire Department responded to the call for help made by an inhabitant of the area a few minutes after the tragic accident occurred.

Carolina Holguín, a publicist by profession, lived on the El Emporio farm in Villa de Leiva.
