Ricardo Bofill Died
The architect Ricardo Bofill died this Friday in Barcelona at the age of 82, leaving a great legacy in neoclassicism and postmodernity
Ricardo Bofill, the renowned Spanish architect, died on January 14 at the age of 82. He was known as one of the most international figures in the design and construction of the 20th century, as he innovated with his works that combined neoclassicism and postmodernity; and for having been the father-in-law of the Mexican singer Paulina Rubio.
He was born on December 5, 1939, and was the son of an architect father who participated in the modern GATCPAC movement. He studied at the Barcelona School of Architecture but was expelled in 1957 for continuing his career at the Geneva School of Architecture, Switzerland, which gave him a different perspective that he reflected in each of his works.
His designs can be found in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, the United States, Japan, China, and India, to name a few. Some examples of his creations are the National Theater of Catalonia (TNC), Terminal 1 of the El Prat airport, his own house and workshop that has the name of ‘La Fábrica ‘, and the Hotel Vela.
