Ouka Leele, a photographer and well-known representative of the “movida” movement in Madrid, died on Tuesday in a hospital in Madrid due to a long illness, according to the artist’s family. She was a month away from turning 65.
Bárbara Allende Gil de Biedma, the niece of the poet and cousin of the former president of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre, received the National Photography Award from the Ministry of Culture (2005) and the Silver Medal of the Community of Madrid, among other awards. On May 15, he received the Madrid Medal, awarded by the City Council.
Adding color to photos
Self-taught (she started Fine Arts but left her studies to start piano), she stood out for the colorful style with which she transformed black and white images and engravings.
From the early 80s, she stood out for her colorful photos and became a reference and prominent member of the “movida”.
When she was commissioned with a color photograph for a cover, she decided that she would create the color herself, and this is how she designed her style, according to the Biografías y Vida portal.
