Jim Diego, a citizen of New York and a native of Wichita, Kansas, has unexpectedly recently died. Online reports state that Jim Diego, a performer and half-marathon runner who also sang national anthems, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was a one-of-a-kind individual. So vibrant and full of life.
The authorities don’t specify the reason for death. The funeral services’ specifics might be made public later. Everyone is mourning his loss, remembering him, and expressing sympathy on social media.
“One of the most influential periods in my life was when I lived in New York. One of the first persons I met in the NYC a cappella scene was Jim Diego. We have a lot of good memories from that time, including CASA festivals, visits to Boston, performances by Empire and The Red States/RESTATED, conversations over Thai cuisine about our family’s corgis, and the most recent theatre rumours. Jim had a great deal of concern for his friends and the different communities he belonged to. Good night, my friend. On the other side, I hope you were met by a sea of corgi puppies.”
Jim enthusiastically represented Front Runners New York in hundreds of races, including 138 marathons around the world, as a nine-year member whose passion for FRNY was seen in every aspect of our club. Jim proudly displayed his FRNY attire and other items from his home states of Kansas, Queens and his alma mater, Michigan (Go Blue, for you, Jim).
Jim’s achievements in sports were motivating. He completed a full marathon and at least two half marathons in each of the 50 states over his lifetime, and in 2019 he was named the FRNY Ultra-Runner of the Year.
Jim sang the National Anthem on race day in each of the 50 states as part of his cross-country running expeditions. Because of his singing and running prowess, Jim became a local hero in New York. He was frequently asked to open NYC marathons with his national anthem performance, most recently during the 2022 NYC Marathon.
