Wayne Sims, a former basketball player for LSU, passed away on Wednesday, his family announced. He was 55.
According to sources, Sims allegedly broke down at work and died as a result. According to officials, Sims appeared to have passed away naturally early on Wednesday morning.

Sims, a DeRidder native, played basketball for LSU from 1987 to 1991. Wayde Sims, a former basketball player for LSU who was shot and killed on September 28, 2018, was the son of Sims.
In his second season with the Tigers, his son Wayde, who played two seasons at LSU, averaged 5.6 points on 51.4% of his shots. He attended University Lab, where he won three state titles and averaged 21.2 points as a senior, and was named the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014–15.
Sims participated in 117 games for Dale Brown’s Tigers between 1987 and 1991, starting 74 of them. During his senior season, Sims assisted Chris Jackson and Shaquille O’Neal in leading their teams to 80 victories, four NCAA Tournament berths, and the 1990–91 SEC Championship.
His sophomore year, when he averaged 13.3 points on 11.7 field goal attempts per game, was his greatest season.
