Wander Franco Goes Missing Amid Investigation of Alleged Relationship with Minors

Santo Domingo prosecutor’s office for children and adolescents in the Dominican Republic is investigating the ongoing case that is associated with Wander Franco, a professional baseball shortstop and Tampa Bay Rays star. According to the reports, on Tuesday, authorities raided two of his homes.

According to the statement of the newspaper Listin Diario, the Tampa Bay Rays star was not found by the police as they raided his home and his mother’s home in Bani, Peravia. The neighborhood has also left messages for his wife, but no one is finding a way to discover Wander Franco, sparking the conversation of his missing due to allegations.

Who is Wander Franco?

Wander Franco, also known as EI patron, is a renowned professional baseball shortstop from the Dominican Republic. He is currently playing for the Tampa Bay Rays in a major baseball league. In 2021, he made his MLB debut, and till 2023, he earned all-star status. He showcased his talent at second base by representing the Dominican Republic in the 2023 World Baseball Classic; however, his status for 2024 is pending due to the ongoing investigation for his allegation case outcomes, and the allegations are bringing his character to stalk.

Allegation and investigation

Wander Franco, a 22-year-old baseball star, played his last game on 12 August. He was the first time all-star of this season. He slashed .281/.344/.475 with 17 homers and 58 RBI. However, some people claim that he might not play in the major again due to allegations. In August, he was placed on administrative leave as authorities in the Dominican Republic claimed that Franco had been in a relationship with underage girls.

Rays have also shown their support in MLB’s investigation of his allegations and stated that Tampa Bay Rays are always dedicated to the integrity and upholding of standards on and off the field.

The allegation was made public in August; however, the complaint was lodged in July. Two girls also came up and showed concern about the inappropriate relationship with Wander. One girl went to the police, and another girl showed up on social media in support of the allegations against him. The Dominican Republic has a strict law prohibiting sexual relationships with those under 18, and those who breach the law will find themselves guilty.

Earlier, Franco took on his Instagram live and denied the allegations, but despite his clarification, Tampa Rays had put him on a restricted list.

Franco had signed on November 2021, an 11-year, $182 million contract extension; however, the team option can make the deal worth $233 million when the case on Franco is over.
