In Florida, a fatal shootout happened on Friday involving a semi-automatic pistol, a beer can, and a dune buggy.
Following the court documents, a Florida man is accused of throwing a beer can as a dune buggy passed him, following an altercation, shooting and murdering the vehicle’s driver.
Wallace Mannin Kirkland, 59, of Sorrento, Florida, was standing by the side of the road with his wife and their neighbor when another man in a dune buggy drove by.
The driver and Kirkland got into a fight after Kirkland “either attempted or did throw a beer can” over the automobile as it passed. The driver allegedly told Kirkland, “I’m going to kill you,” after getting out of his car, according to the affidavit.
The victim of this scene was Kirkland. According to the complaint, Wallace Kirkland allegedly shot the other man in the chest with a Ruger semi-automatic pistol while they were only four feet apart.
The victim said, “he couldn’t believe” Wallace Kirkland shot him because of this. Kirkland faces a first-degree murder attempt allegation.
The affidavit states that the victim was “outnumbered and physically smaller” than Kirkland and his neighbor, and witnesses to the incident told police that they did not see the victim holding any weapons.
The victim tried to return to his car and leave before passing out, according to the paperwork submitted to the court. After a while, he passed dead in a nearby Florida hospital in Eustis.
Based on several witness statements, it appeared that Mr. Kirkland and the victim had repeated verbal altercations in the past, according to the affidavit used to make the arrest. Kirkland was arrested on May 13 at 13d midnight and charged with manslaughter and aggravated violence.
He was held for a brief period on a $40,000 bail. According to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, Kirkland was released on bond and is still permitted to possess a firearm until his allegations are proven true.
