Missing Brookhaven Woman Aimee Lafakis Found; Boyfriend Under Arrest

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — a missing woman was found dead on Drowning Creek Road in Dacula, GA; her previously dated boyfriend was arrested on charges of kidnapping.

About the incident

According to the Brookhaven police department, the family of the missing family contacted them on September 29, regarding the 48 year old woman named Aimee Lafakis, who had been missing since September 28. Her family confirmed that they heard from her with a text at 2. A.m. the day she was missing

She is a mother of two daughters and had three sisters. She had a dinner planned with her daughter on Friday night. Her daughter called her, but she didn’t receive the call. Later, her daughter came to her apartment. She saw her car but couldn’t find her mother in the apartments. However, according to her ex-husband, she was last present at her location at the MAA Glen apartment complex.

Brookhaven police department is actively investigating the matter. The investigation started by questioning the residents of her apartment. Police officers also questioned Aimee Lafakis’ boyfriend, Brandon Wineinger, as part of their investigation process. During questioning, he made several statements that were proven to be false. Brookhaven investigators arrested him in charge of the four felonies: kidnapping, burglary, giving false statements, and tampering with evidence. He was then sentenced to DeKalb County Jail.

On Sunday 1st, October 2023, Brookhaven police department received a notification from Gwinnett Police Department that they found the dead body of a woman in Gwinnett County as they were investigating the homicide in the area of Harbin Circle near Turkey Crossing.

On Monday, both the Brookhaven police department and Gwinnett Police Department along with medical examiner reached the location. They confirmed the remains of Aimee Lafakis, located on Drowning Creek Road, which is 30 miles away from her Brookhaven apartments.
