A drama. Aged 41, the Haitian singer Michaël Benjamin died Saturday evening following a malaise when he had just left the stage, invited by the group Carimi. He would have succumbed to cardiac arrest. The family has not yet revealed his funeral arrangements.

The Caribbean musical group celebrated their reunion after six years of separation. Mikaben, a friend of the group and guest, lost consciousness after his famous song “Ou Pati” (You left).

Born in 1981 in Port-au-Prince, Michael Benjamin could not be resuscitated despite the intervention of the emergency services and thus leaves Caribbean music in mourning, a little over a year after the death of the guitarist of the group Kassav ‘,  Jacob Desvarieux, in July 2021.

His death was confirmed by several Haitian personalities and media shortly after midnight,  RCI radio reported.

Nearly 15,000 people had responded to the Parisian event.

“I am devastated by the news of the sudden death of the young and very talented artist Michael Benjamin “Mikaben”, reacted on Twitter the Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry. It is a great reference of Haitian music which has just died out”.

“The country and the Haitian youth have lost a beautiful soul,” he added. I extend my condolences to his family, friends and the music community as a whole.”

The famous Haitian singer Wyclef Jean also paid tribute to his compatriot and colleague on Twitter. “Rest in peace King Mikaben, gone too soon”.

On Instagram, Guadeloupean artist Admiral T posted a photo of the late artist.
