Meredith Legin Smith Death, Obituary, Cause of Death, Funeral

Former student Meredith Legin Smith of Elon University passed away. She died on November 27, 2022, on a Sunday, when she was 35 years old. In a statement that read: It is with heavy and sad hearts that we honor our sister and friend, Meredith Legin Smith, Elon University Sigma Kappa confirmed her death.

At this time, the cause of death is unknown. Everyone expresses their sorrow and condolences on social media and how much they miss her. On Saturday, December 3, at 3 p.m., St. Mark’s Community Church in Burlington, NC, will host a celebration of life service.

Her fantastic husband, Kyle, and their boys, Brody and Landon. Parents Janice and Joel Legin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, sister Caroline and brother-in-law Grayson Patterson of Erie, Pennsylvania; Kyle’s parents Dale and Al Smith of Burlington, North Carolina. And sister- and brother-in-law Alison and Travis Upton and their children Madisyn, Camryn, and Bennett of Burlington, North Carolina, round out Meredith’s survivors.

Janice and Joel Legin, Meredith’s loving parents, welcomed her into the world on December 17, 1986, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Everyone understood right away when Meredith was little that she could steal the show with her witty banter, alluring charm, and endless dancing. When Meredith’s younger sister Caroline was born, she immediately received a playmate and best friend.

Meredith also resided in London, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, in addition to Baltimore. After completing her education at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, she enrolled at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. Kyle Smith, her future husband, was the love of her life when she first arrived in Elon. The fact that Kyle shared her Baltimore background and knew the Ravens were the best football team and how to recognize a decent crab cake was fate.

Following graduation, Kyle and Meredith wed at The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, where they also constructed their first house. Meredith received her MBA from the Love School of Business while working for Elon Admissions for 12 years, a job she genuinely enjoyed and appreciated.
