Edwin Moses Biography:
Edwin Moses was born on August 31, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio. He won gold in the 400 metre hurdles at the 1976 and 1984 Olympics, as well as a bronze medal in Seoul in 1988.
Moses was born in the city of Dayton, Ohio. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, on an academic scholarship, where he majored in physics and industrial engineering while also competing on the school track team.
Morehouse did not have its own track, so he trained and ran at public high school facilities throughout the city. Moses initially competed primarily in the 120-yard hurdles and 440-yard dash. He had only run one 400 m hurdles race before March 1976, but once he focused on the event, he made remarkable progress.
Moses’ trademark technique was to take a consistent 13 steps between each hurdle, pulling away in the second half of the race as his competitors frequently took 15 strides or changed their stride.
