Mark Capps Death: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

At the age of 54, Grammy-winning recording engineer Mark Capps passed away. Capps, a top artist’s manager, was shot and murdered on Thursday, January 5, in the afternoon by Nashville police SWAT.

The Metro Nashville Police Department claims that at 3 am that morning, Capps allegedly woke up his 60-year-old wife and 23-year-old stepdaughter and held them at gunpoint, refusing to let them go and threatening to murder them if they tried to contact for help.

On Thursday morning, Mark’s wife and stepdaughter allegedly departed the house and reported it to the police. When the SWAT squad arrived at the residence, Mark displayed a gun in his doorway and was shot.

There are no specifics on the funeral services offered.

Mark lost his brother Jeff Capps, another Nashville musician, a few days before the event. The late Jimmy Capps was a renowned studio guitarist and spent more than 50 years playing in the Grand Ole Opry house band. Jimmy’s sons are Mark and Jeff. In June 2020, Jimmy Capps passed away.

The tragedy shocked a large community of the neighborhood’s music scene. Capps came from a household that is well-known in Nashville.

Since 1987, according to a discography on Capps’ website, he has collaborated with various gospel and country musicians, including John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Rogers, Donna Summer, the Mavericks, Anita Cochran, Kenny Loggins, Olivia Newton-John, and the Isaacs.

He has also worked with singers like Alabama, the Dixie Chicks, Neil Diamond, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Brooks & Dunn, Barry Manilow,

In four consecutive years, from 2005 to 2008, he won a Grammy for best polka record while performing with Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra, per the Recording Academy’s website.
