Ian Bairnson Death: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

The Scottish session guitarist Ian Bairnson, best known for his work with Kate Bush and the Alan Parsons Project, passed away at 69.

Leila Bairnson, the guitarist’s wife, shared the breaking news on social media with the following statement:

“It is with great grief and regret that I let you know that my darling husband Ian Bairnson passed away on Friday, April 7, 2018.”

Sadly, Ian Bairnson died after a long fight with dementia. The cause of Ian Bairnson’s death has devastated the community. Plans for the funeral will be revealed later. Everyone is mourning the talented Ian Bairson and remembering him.

Ian Bairnson, raised in the Shetland Islands of Scotland, acquired his first guitar when he was six years old. When he was only a teenager, his musical independence led to a job as a session musician in Edinburgh.

He was able to move to London thanks to his earnings, and when Steve Harley approached him to join Cockney Rebel, Blairford decided to join the Scottish rock band Pilot instead, who had just signed with EMI. In 1975, their first song, January, peaked at No. 1 on the UK charts.

He also worked on Kate Bush’s albums Lionheart (1978), Never for Ever (1980), and The Dreaming (1980). (1978). Also, when performing with the group Bucks Fizz, he contributed to two of their Top 20 hits, “If You Can’t Take the Heat” (1982) and “Run for Your Life” (1983).
