Rio Hackford, who appeared in films like Jonah Hex and series like The Mandalorian and American Crime Story, died last Thursday (14) at the age of 52. The news was confirmed by the actor’s brother, Alex Hackford, to Variety.

In the Star Wars spinoff series, Hackford did the motion capture of the android IG-11, who was later voiced by Taika Waititi; and also appeared in the flesh as the bounty hunter Riot Mar.
On TV, the actor was still Detective Pat McKenna in the first season of American Crime Story; he played clerk Toby in the HBO drama Treme and appeared in episodes of Pam & Tommy and Togetherness.
Rio was the son of filmmaker Taylor Hackford, known for signing features like Devil’s Advocate and Ray – and, therefore, stepson of actress Helen Mirren, who married the eldest Hackford in 1997.
In the film, Rio had small roles in 1990s classics such as Uma Linda Mulher, Estranhos Prazeres, and Swingers: Enjoying the Night. He later appeared in the action film Déjà Vu and was Gayden Nash in the film adaptation of Jonah Hex starring Josh Brolin.
Rio was also known for the nightclubs he ran in New Orleans and San Francisco. The venues were meeting places for the arts community and would often bring concerts by local bands and musicians in an attempt to increase their visibility.
