Tragically, Saskatchewan-born guitarist and rock musician Gary Ostafichuk of Penny Reign just departed away. He passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, according to a Facebook post that read:
“We are shocked and saddened to hear that our friend and former guitarist Gary Ostafichuk has passed away. The memories come flowing back at times like these, and they are all good. From jumping into the band with almost no notice and nailing it to his energy and sense of humour, Gary left his mark. By all the posts we are reading, he was loved by many. Our deepest condolences to his family, bandmates and friends.”
The actual reason for his death hasn’t been known to the public. Soon, the family will release information about the obituary. People began to mourn and remember the talented Grey, paying him tribute and expressing their sorrow on social media.

I loved being part of his Wednesday night open mike nights at Pabco. It’s so hard to process that he’s gone. He just got the head tech job at E.A. Rawlinson Center and was doing well. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP Gary. You definitely will be missed.”

In addition to teaching guitar students and maintaining a studio, Grey has been a part of the Prince Albert music scene for 30 years.
He has played bass for many regional bands, including Penny Reign, Lemon, and Misder Completely. Last year, Ostafichuk decided to establish his solo project, The Grey O Xperiment, and use his musical abilities to write songs.
