Jofre was considered the greatest Brazilian bantamweight boxer of all time. He was the world champion of the division between 1960 and 1965. In 1973, he won the world title as a featherweight, a division above the bantamweight.

The three-time featherweight and bantamweight world champion was the first Brazilian to hold a world-renowned boxing belt. Also known as the “Golden Rooster”, he was inducted in 2021 into the United States West Coast Boxing Hall of Fame.

Jofre was born on March 26, 1936. On March 4 of this year, he was admitted to a clinic in São Paulo due to pneumonia. Furthermore, the former boxer suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
