Professor of surgery (urology) at McMaster University and a resident of Hamilton, Ontario, Dr. Anil Kapoor, passed away recently. On March 1, 2023, a social media death announcement was made for him.
In honor of a pioneer in cancer treatment at the city hospital, flags at St. Joseph’s Health Care in Hamilton are flying at half-mast on Thursday. After a brief struggle with an acute illness, the network announced the demise of Dr. Anil Kapoor, a dedicated expert in kidney and other genitourinary cancers.
There was no information given about the funeral services.
Everyone is mourning the great doctor’s passing, remembering him, and expressing their condolences to him online.
“Today, I’m heartbroken. You were a well-respected and gifted surgeon: a wonderful friend and coworker to me and countless others. Everyone who worked under your direction had their careers shaped by you. You were constantly beaming and making jokes. My friend, you will be sorely missed. Right now, I can see your smile and hear your laugh.”
His entire life and professional endeavors were devoted to improving treatment for genitourinary cancers, including kidney cancer. From the beginning, he contributed significantly to the Division of Urology at McMaster University and worked in Hamilton for more than 20 years.
At St. Louis University, he was the director of the Urologic Oncology Center for Research & Innovation. Joseph’s Hospital Hamilton and was a longtime member of the Department of Surgery. He was also one of our prominent leaders in surgical innovation at St. Joseph’s Healthcare.
Dr. Kapoor fiercely supported philanthropy’s potential to advance medical research and patient care at our institution. To secure life-changing donations for medical research that will improve care for patients dealing with urologic illnesses and cancers for decades, he collaborated closely with grateful patients, our giving community, and coworkers at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation.
