This Thursday the death of Steve Mackey, who was the bassist of the Britpop band Pulp, was confirmed.
Mackey, who died at the age of 56, held that position in the band since 1989 and lived through its heyday as part of the global phenomenon that was UK music in the 1990s.
The death was reported via Instagram by Katie Grand, the interpreter’s wife and also a music producer. “After three months in the hospital, fighting with all her strength and determination, we have been struck and devastated to say goodbye to my brilliant and beautiful husband, Steve Mackey. Steve died today, a loss that leaves me, his son Marley, parents Kath and Paul, sister Michelle and many heartbroken friends,” she wrote.
He then explained that “Steve was the most talented man I have ever met, an exceptional musician, producer, photographer, and filmmaker. As in life, he was adored by everyone his paths crossed in the disciplines he conquered. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at the NHS who worked tirelessly for Steve, he will be missed beyond words.
