Tessman wrote the following message:

“I’m writing this with a great deal of sadness and bad news. We now know that a sophomore from Traverse City, Michigan, Carson Needham perished in an automobile accident on Sunday. Carson double-majored in communications studies and music. He was a percussionist in the jazz band and participated in the marching band’s drumline for NMU. Our thoughts and prayers are with Carson’s family, friends, and loved ones as they deal with an unfathomable loss.

We are all still mourning what happened at Michigan State University, so dealing with this tragedy may be more demanding. We want to remind our campus community that it is essential to process the emotions brought on by this and any other unfavorable news to be complete and well. Please help by utilizing the resources you have. Support one another by contacting your fellow students, employees, and faculty members.”
