Unfortunately, Carol Lavell, a popular dressage medalist from the Olympics, passed away. On March 27, 2023, she died at the age of 79.
According to a message by USA Dressage, “U.S. Equestrian sends condolences to the family and friends of Carol Lavell in light of her demise.” the public was made aware of her passing. Her family has not disclosed the details surrounding Carol Lavell’s actual cause of death.
Funeral arrangements will be revealed by the authorities later. Her friends, relatives, and everyone else paying tribute to her are having a difficult time.
“RIP, dear Carol. I was so proud to be your teammate, along with Robert and Michael, at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where you were very instrumental in us bringing home a team Bronze medal for the USA. I fondly remember Barcelona and our time training in Germany together.
You and Gifted were the talk of the dressage world! Since then, you have significantly impacted U.S. dressage by annually awarding the Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize to deserving riders aiming for the Elite level. Thank you.”
The American team that participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where they competed in the team dressage competition, was led by dressage rider Carol Lavell, who won the bronze medal for her country.
In the years that followed, they created history when they became the first Americans to ever win the Grand Prix at the Hermes International Dressage Show, which was held in England.
Lavell also won eight national championships, all of which she achieved between 1985 and 1988, along with a silver medal in the 1987 Pan American Games.
Lavell decided to buy Gifted, a bay Hanoverian horse that stood 17.3 hands tall when he was only four years old. Lavell donated money to U.S. Dressage, The Dressage Foundation, and the Gifted Memorial Fund for Adult Amateurs in contrast to her career as a competitor, creating the $25,000 Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize and the Fund.
