Owner of the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey, known as the “home of darts,” Bob Potter, OBE, died at 94.

The World Darts Federation (WDF), which indicated in its obituary that “his legacy at the venue” will be continued over the following three years, with the next edition of their World Championship being in December, announced the news “with great sadness.”

His actual cause of death is unknown at this time. The family will provide further information later in the obituary. On social media, everybody has remembered him and shown their sorrow.

He created the legendary Lakeside complex in 1972, which quickly rose to the top of cabaret clubs, booking stars from around the world and collecting accolades year after year.

Bob was a devoted darts fan, and from 1986 to 2019, the Darts World Championships were held at his storied Lakeside Country Club. In addition, Lakeside served as the primary sponsor from 2004 until 2019 and again in 2022, when he warmly welcomed us back.

His business includes hotels as well as several highly profitable enterprises. A devoted and active Water Rat, he helped rebuild the magnificent Lodge, offices, and museum buildings that serve as the current location of the GOWR, working alongside his good friend Com of Hr. John Ratcliff CBE.
