They were unable to save the life of Bence Szvoboda – announced the team of the Hungarian motocross champion. A few hours ago, a video of Sunday’s tragic race in Paco, full of crashes, appeared online.
They could not save the life of the 31-year-old Hungarian athlete , who suffered a fatal accident at the beginning of the final race on Sunday.
Bence’s organization finally gave up on Wednesday, at 11:50 a.m., having lost the biggest fight of his life. As we wrote, Bence Svoboda fell on a motocross track built in a picturesque location 78 kilometers from Prague.
Did several motorcyclists drive over it?
According to the first reports, his fall was not serious, the tragedy was caused by the motorcyclist behind him driving over him. A report from a German specialist website provides new details: according to this, not only one, but also several riders coming behind him ran over Bence’s body, who immediately lost consciousness. He was taken by ambulance helicopter to the clinic in Prague, where he was immediately operated on, but even medical intervention could not save his life.
So far, the organizers have posted only a 10-second summary on their website, but a few hours ago, a ten-minute video of the competition became visible.
The overview short film starts with the preliminaries and immediately begins with a crash: already in the first corner, several people get stuck, but they successfully get their bikes back on their feet and continue the race. The fall can also be seen later, and the way the organizers immediately rush to the aid of the bikers, one of them even has to lift the racing machine off. However, Bence’s tragedy is not mentioned in the short film, which gives off an idyllic atmosphere about the race, with its mix of happy motorcyclists and beer-drinking pushers. Underneath, you can see posts in English and Hungarian, worrying and praying for Bence.
The team boss made a harsh statement
Bence’s team boss, the Czech Jan Smolek, was still optimistic on Sunday, he believed that his competitor had already overcome the worst. Our paper called him at noon on Wednesday to ask about the accident and the information published about it, but he was quite dismissive at the time. It can be imagined that shortly before our call, he learned of Bence’s death and the pain of grief caused him to react unusually:
I will not speak to a Hungarian newspaper!
said Smolek in Czech, then quickly said goodbye in German and hung up the phone.
Career
Szvoboda started in the Hungarian adult motocross championship in 2007, at the age of 15, and finished second in the MX2 category. Later, he achieved a total of 23 pole positions, 40 race wins and 20 overall firsts here and among the MX1 riders, and collected five individual and team championships, reports p1race.hu . Bence is a ten-time Hungarian and two-time Czech champion.
