The incident occurred at Taylor Swift’s concert on 17 November 2023, where a Brazilian student named Ana Clara Benevides lost her life. It has been reported that around 60000 people attended the show on that day. Ana Clara Benevides, along with her friend, also went to attend the concert around 11:00 am at Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro with the excitement of seeing Taylor Swift’s live performance.
Rio de Janeiro recorded a temperature of 59 degrees centigrade due to the heat wave on the concert day. The situation was exacerbated by the instructions of T4F to prohibit the concertgoers from taking in personal water bottles and food in the concert with reference to security concerns. These instructions resulted in a thousand fans fainting during and before the show due to dehydration. Taylor Swift herself saw many fans fainted during the concert and ordered to dispense water bottles for the fans.
Ana Clara shared on her WhatsApp and social media about the awful experience she had outside the stadium in the queue for entry into the concert. She mentioned that she had waited almost eight hours before stadium personnel allowed her to enter. Ana Clara informed the paramedics that she was not feeling well before the concert started, and she fainted around 7:30 pm during the Taylor Swift performance on ‘Cruel Summer’, which was the second song in the tour set list. Ana Clara was taken to the first aid center and then shifted to Salgado Filho Hospital.
According to the reports from the Rio de Janeiro health agency, Ana came without a pulse and passed away after an hour of resuscitation failed attempts and was declared dead due to cardiac arrest.

Ana was reported to graduate in the coming year in 2024. She was known for her passion for Taylor Swift concerts and traveled for the first time on an airplane flight across the country to fulfill her dream of seeing Taylor Swift’s live performance.
Ana Clara’s parents’ response to her death
Ana Clara’s mother, Adriana, and father, Jose, shared their words on the tragic incident. Her mother, Adriana, mentioned that her daughter was her angel, and she was happy about the fact that she made it to the concert. Ana created a WhatsApp group, ‘Ana Goes to Rio,’ in which she shared her concert journey with her divorced parents.
Ana Clara’s father, Jose weiny Machado called the restriction of water bottles absurd and claimed that the responsive one that caused the death of his daughter would face serious consequences and wait for the final medical report before taking final action for his daughter’s death.
Ana Clara’s father also showed his disappointment with T4F management as they did not inform them about the death of his daughter, as Ana Clara’s friend Menin was the one who told him about her death.
