René Cardona III, the Mexican film director, and scriptwriter died at 59 in Tijuana, California, as was announced by the Secretariat of Culture of Mexico City and the journalist Jesús Martin Mendoza through his Twitter account. Among the producer’s best-known works, the film Horror Holidays, starring Pedro Fernández and Gabriela Hassel, stands out.
“René Cardona III died this morning in Tijuana, Baja California. Reports from his family and friends report a possible heart attack as the cause of his death. A legend of Mexican cinema is leaving. Rest in Peace René Cardona III,” reported journalist Jesús Martin Mendoza.
Other details of the death of the actor and director, heir to one of the most recognized dynasties of Mexican cinema, are not yet known. René Cardona III directed multiple films mainly of the detective, horror, and border genre.
“We regret the death of the director, screenwriter, actor, and producer René Cardona III. We send our condolences to his family and friends,” confirmed the Secretary of Culture of Mexico City.
