On social media, the family wrote: “She didn’t have many black actresses who appeared in productions, but my cousin starred in Tap alongside big names like Gregory Hines and Sammy David Jr. She also starred opposite Angela Basset and Whoopi Goldberg in Stella’s New Passion .”

Without citing the cause of death, Angie Tee also made an announcement to Portal Essence: “She was beautiful and talented, and passed away today. She warmed our hearts with movies and series all over the world. This beautiful soul was my cousin.”

Born in Chicago to a single mother in a low-income family, Suzzanne Douglas excelled in her studies and won scholarships to improve her performing arts and music, which led her to film in 1989, with a major role in the musical “Tap – The Dance of Two Lives”. The debut performance earned him the Image Awards from the NAACP, one of the oldest cultural organizations in the US civil rights movement.
