Known for her roles in The Parent ‘Hood (1995-1999), Rock School (2003), and Eyes That Condemn (2019), actress Suzzanne Douglas died aged 64, this Tuesday, 6, according to information from cousin Angie Tee.

On social media, the family wrote: “She didn’t have many black actresses who appeared in productions, but my cousin starred in Tap alongside big names like Gregory Hines and Sammy David Jr. She also starred opposite Angela Basset and Whoopi Goldberg in Stella’s New Passion .”

Without citing the cause of death, Angie Tee also made an announcement to Portal Essence: “She was beautiful and talented, and passed away today. She warmed our hearts with movies and series all over the world. This beautiful soul was my cousin.”

Suzanne Douglas’ most recent role was as Grace Cuffee in the Netflix miniseries Condemning Eyes (2019) . The production’s director and screenwriter,  Ava DuVernay, posted a Twitter post about the actress this Wednesday, 7.

Born in Chicago to a single mother in a low-income family, Suzzanne Douglas excelled in her studies and won scholarships to improve her performing arts and music, which led her to film in 1989, with a major role in the musical “Tap – The Dance of Two Lives”. The debut performance earned him the Image Awards from the NAACP, one of the oldest cultural organizations in the US civil rights movement.

In the same year, she began making appearances on series that included “A Man Named Hawk” and “The Cosby Show” until being cast in 1995 as the lead in “The Parent ‘Hood” as a college professor’s wife. (Robert Townsend) and mother of four. The attraction lasted for five seasons.
