Brooklyn-born actor Stuart Damon, who for decades played Dr. Alan Quartermaine on the popular series “General Hospital,” has died at age 84.

The veteran television star had been battling kidney failure in recent years, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter George Pennacchio, who reported his passing.

Stuart’s son Christopher Damon told ABC7 that his father enjoyed his three decades on the longest-running American television series still in production.

“It was his favorite place to be. He loved playing Alan and was always very grateful for that role and that job. It was his passion, “Christopher said.

before debuting in 1977 as a handsome doctor in New York’s fictional city of Port Charles, Damon began his career on Broadway.

He moved to the UK in the 1960s and is best known to British audiences as secret agent Craig Stirling from the cult detective series “The Champions.”

He was also featured in the 1965 remake of the Rodgers and Hammerstein television musical “Cinderella,” playing the prince alongside Lesley Ann Warren.

In “General Hospital,” he played the playboy son of wealthy businessman Edward Quartermain.

He won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in 1999 for his work on a story involving Alan Quartermain’s addiction to hydrocodone.

Born on February 5, 1937, in New York, Stuart Damon began his acting career on Broadway. He made the leap to television in 1962, the year he appeared in an episode of The Naked City. After participating in series such as El santo , Los invincibles del Némesis , Los nuevo avengadores or Yanks Go Home, the interpreter got his big break in 1977 and signed for General Hospital .
