The Andy Griffith Show’s Charlene Darling, Maggie Peterson dies at 81

The actress and singer Maggie Peterson dies at the age of 81.

Maggie Peterson’s family announces the news in a social media post. 

The news was posted on The Andy Griffith Show Museum Facebook and Mancuso’s Facebook page on Monday.

“Dear Fans, Friends, and Family,

With great sorrow, we report that our dear Aunt Maggie died yesterday afternoon (Sunday, May 15). She passed peacefully in her sleep with her family present.”

The family member also mentions the reason for her death.

“Maggie’s health took a turn for the worse after the death of her husband Gus, and we are relieved that we were able to move her home to be close to family for her last days.”

They further stated, “We will be planning a private service for Maggie in the next few weeks. Although this fundraiser will no longer accept donations, we will keep it open for a few more weeks to communicate with this community.”

She played the role of Charlene Darling in The Andy Griffith Show, the daughter of the eccentric Darling family, whose mountain beliefs cause chaos. 

Moreover, Maggie marked her appearance in “Love American Style,” “Green Acres,” “Gomer Pyle USMC,” “The Odd Couple,” “Mayberry R.F.D.,” “Return to Mayberry,” “The Love God?,” and “Angel in My Pocket.”
