The American actor and musician Conrad Janis, known for playing Mindy’s dad in the famous sitcom Mork & Mindy, passed away on March 1 in Los Angeles at the ripe old age of 94.
He was a star of the stage, TV, jazz club, art gallery, and more. Legendary jazz trumpeter and actor who starred in “Mork & Mindy”, a sit-like and spin-off of the Happy Days series where he debuted the character of Mork played by the great and at the time very young Robin Williams.
The actor died on March 1, 2022, at the age of 94 and the news, which had been circulating for a few days, was confirmed by his manager, Dean A. Avedon, in a statement to the New York Times. Born on February 11, 1928, to famous Manhattan art collectors Sidney and Harriet Janis, the actor began acting at the age of 13, appearing in the comedy “Junior Miss”.

Several years later he starred in his first Broadway show, “Dark Side of the Moon,” one of 12 Broadway productions in which Conrad Janis would appear during his legendary career. Two years later, he appeared in “That Hagen Girl,” with Ronald Reagan and Shirley Temple.
Janis’ career took off in the 1960s when she had small parts in a number of successful television shows, including “The Untouchables”, “Stoney Burke”, “Get Smart” and “My Favorite Martian”. Its success continued into the 1970s with roles in “Baretta”, “Happy Days”, “Police Story”, “The Jefferson”, “Laverne & Shirley” and numerous other classic series but it is the role of Fred McConnell, Mindy’s affectionate but overprotective father (Pam Dawber) in Robin Williams’ comedy “Mork & Mindy” who consecrated him to success. The actor appeared in all four seasons from 1978 to 1982.
The actor has landed roles in many other TV series including “St. Elsewhere “,” The Lady in Crime “and” Frasier “, in which he played Albert, a neighbor of Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and his father (John Mahoney) and in the films” Airport ’75 “(1974), “The Happy Hooker” (1975), “The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox” (1976), “The Buddy Holly Story” (1978), “Oh, God!
