Former member of the British reggae band UB40 Terence Wilson, known as Astro, died this Saturday at the age of 64 after a brief illness, reported his current group Ali Campbell and Astro on the Twitter account.

“We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Astro passed away today after a very brief illness. The world will never be the same without him. We ask that you respect the privacy of your family at this incredibly difficult time, ”reads the account of Ali Campbell and Astro.

“We’ve heard tonight, the sad news that former member of UB40, Terence Wilson, better known as Astro, has died after a brief illness. Our condolences to his family” wrote the band UB40 on Twitter.

UB40 was formed in 1978 with James Brown, Brian Travers, and Earl Falconer, who were joined shortly after by the rest of the members: Alistair Campbell, Robin Campbell, Norman Hassan, Michael Virtue, and Astro. They were all friends who knew each other from their native Birmingham.

The name chosen for the group referred to the form that the unemployed had to fill out in order to be able to collect subsidies in the UK, in a nod to their origins and UB40’s social commitment.

During its more than 40 years in business, the group has great hits such as ” Red Red Wine ” and ” Falling In Love With You ” and has gone on to sell more than one hundred million albums worldwide.
