How Did Charles Yohane Die? What Was His Cause Of Death?

Mourning in the world of African football. Former Zimbabwean player Charles Yohane was found dead. He was 48 and was shot dead by alleged car thieves. Yohane, who played for many years in the national team of his country, worked as a taxi driver. To report the news are various foreign newspapers including The Sun and the BBC.

As a midfielder, although he was employed as a left-back, Yohane began his career moving from  Zimbabwe and South Africa. The turning point comes with the signing of  Bidvest Wits, in which he played for nine years and with which he made more than 250 appearances. His agonistic adventure ends in 2009, at AK.

With the national team of his country,  Zimbabwe, he collects 24 appearances in official matches, also participating in the 2004 African Cup and the  2006 African Cup.

After retiring he went on to work as a manager for the Johannesburg club but then resigned in 2020. After that, he found a job in a taxi company,  Bolt, but was found dead in  Soweto after a robbery.

As the former footballer’s friends quoted by the BBC admitted, they could not contact him over the weekend.

The final of the 48-year-old’s search turned out to be tragic. On Monday in Soweto – a town outside Johannesburg – his body was found, although his death was supposed to take place on Saturday.

“He was kidnapped, they took his car and shot him in the head,” said Charles’s despairing brother, who is remembered as a bright, intelligent, and dedicated footballer and human.

The player was very popular in  Zimbabwe, so much so that following the discovery of the tragic disappearance the British-Zimbabwean broadcaster Steve Vickers wrote: “Tragic news. Former Zimbabwe, CAPS, and Wits left-back Charles Yohane was kidnapped and killed in South Africa at the age of 48. He was on the Warriors team for AFCON 2004 ″.

Yohane’s former club includes former Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey and former Everton and Rangers defender Richard Gough among his discoveries.
