Athlete Agnes Jebet Tirop is allegedly stabbed to death by her husband.
The Kenya Athletics Federation confirmed, on Wednesday (13), the death of Agnes Jebet Tirop, fourth in the 5,000m in the Tokyo Olympics and world record holder in the 10,000m. The athlete was found dead, at home, with signs of stabbing.

According to the Kenya Athletics Federation, Agnes Jebet Tirop’s body was found by neighbors, who reported overhearing an argument the night before.

Kenyan athlete Agnes Jebet Tirop , a bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters at the London 2017 and Doha 2019 World Championships and a gold medal in cross-country in 2015, was found dead, a victim of stab wounds, Kenyan sports officials said.
“Tirop was found dead at her home in Iten after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband. We are still working to uncover more details about her disappearance,” Athletics Kenya explained in a statement.
Tirop, 25, had recently finished fourth in 5,000 meters at the Tokyo Olympics and was regarded as a rising star in her country’s athletics.
The Kenyan was found dead at her home at the Iten altitude training center, in western Kenya, and her death could be a homicide, where her husband would be the main suspect, the same source said.
“Kenya lost a diamond. She was one of the fastest progressing athletes on the international scene, thanks to her outstanding performances on the track,” Athletics Kenya deplored in a statement.
