The 74-year-old journalist had been hospitalized since May 12 due to a health decompensation that he suffered that same day before the end of the La Noticia program.
His daughter, Erika Gavilánez, said that the health complications were due to the aftermath of covid-19. She had asked for a prayer chain for the recovery of the communicator.
In his 37-year career, Gavilánez worked on the television channels RTS, TC Televisión, Ecuavisa and Canal Uno.
