The screenwriter and TV producer Zack Estrin, responsible for bringing works such as Prison Break and Lost in Space, to the screens, has died at the age of 51. According to his agents, Zack passed away in Hermosa Beach, California. According to the portal Deadline, the screenwriter died on Friday, the 23rd, after a cardiac arrest while jogging.
“Zack Estrin was our everything. The best husband, father, son and friend. He loved to make everyone happy. He loved to make everyone laugh,” the family said in a statement. “He loved being a writer/producer and being a part of creating these shows that people liked. But most of all, he adored his family and friends. Thank you all for being a part of his life and ours,” they continued.
The writer and producer began his career working on shows like Charmed, Dawson’s Creek and Tru Calling before serving as showrunner and executive producer on The River and The Whispers. One of his most recent works was the series Lost in Space, on Netflix, which premiered its third and final season last year.
“Zack was a beloved writer, producer & partner whose work taught us to seek adventure and trust in family,” Matt Thunell, vice president of series at Netflix, said in a statement.
Although, he chose to move to television and that is how he became the ‘showrunner’ of series such as “Hehiceras” (1998), “Friends and lovers” (1998) and “Tru Calling” (2003). By 2005, he would become a co-executive producer on “Prison Break,” the critically acclaimed Fox series.
From there we would see his work in ABC productions such as “The River” (2012) and “Hidden Voices” (2015); He also served as co-creator and executive producer of “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.” Recently, he served as executive producer and showrunner on “Lost in Space” (2018), the science fiction series on Netflix.
