Susie Tennant, a longtime Seattle music industry promotion and marketing specialist who is credited with the breakthrough of Nirvana and many other notable bands and artists, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, of early onset dementia. She was 61 years old at the time of her tragic demise.

Susie Tennant passed away in her home surrounded by family on Thursday, January 18, 2024, due to early onset dementia. Tennant had been struggling with frontotemporal degeneration, a form of dementia, for many years. Before that, she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had battled the disease bravely.
Her family announced the sad news of her untimely passing in a post on her social media handle.
“Susie passed away yesterday surrounded by family and love,” read the post, “She was calm and at peace. Thank you all for your love and support.”
Susie Tennant is survived by her husband, Christopher Swenson, their two children, Ella and Eli, and a host of friends and admirers.

Susie Tenant was a respected figure in the Seattle music community. She was a music promoter and marketing expert. She was best known for her work for DGC Records, a division of Geffen Records, and her marketing and promotions work at Sub Pop, Experience Music Project (MoPOP), Tower Records, BMG, University Book Store, M3 Marketing, and Town Hall.
Tennant had a natural gift for building community and collaborative environment, which helped her build a successful career as a promotion representative. She truly believed in the artist whom she promoted. Her belief and enthusiasm persuaded even the most cynical radio program directors to play her bands. Her passion for music was unparalleled.
Tennant was one of the first supporters of Nirvana and played an integral part in the band’s breakthrough. “We loved Susie a great deal, and she will be missed,” said band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic upon hearing the devastating news of her passing.
Novoselic and others also played a benefit concert at EMP to help Susie pay her medical expenses when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. Dozens of other bands from around the world contributed.
Despite being friends with one of the most successful bands in the world, Tennant remained humble and never capitalized on her famous friends. Everyone loved her. She was the heart and soul of the Seattle music community.
Her legacy will forever live in the music she loved and helped share. She gave the world the gift of love, friendship, and great music. The world will forever be grateful for her contribution to the music industry.
