Stephan Bonnar, a light heavyweight in the UFC whose legendary fight with Forrest Griffin, not only earned him a spot in the Hall of Fame but also might have prevented the UFC from going broke, passed away on December 22nd, 2022, at the age of 45, according to the UFC.

Griffin received a six-figure UFC contract after winning the bout by unanimous decision. However, UFC president Dana White also gave Bonnar a contract since the fight was so excellent.
As a lifelong resident of Las Vegas and a native of Hammond, Indiana, Bonnar had not competed in an MMA match since he headlined the most-viewed Bellator event in company history in 2014 with a fight against Tito Ortiz.
