Paul Funk, the administrator, teacher, coach, and athletic director of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, passed suddenly on April 15, 2023, a Saturday.

Dr. Paul Funk, the principal, passed away after having a heart attack while teaching baseball with his son. At the time of his death, he was 51 years old. He leaves around his wife Heather and their three children, Jack, Molly, and Madison.

Dr. Paul coached baseball as a graduate assistant at UNM (University of New Mexico). From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Paul Funk attended the University of New Mexico for his Master’s in Applied Physiology program.

The UConn Huskies baseball team started Dr. Paul Funk at shortstop for four seasons. Captain of the 1993 NCAA Division 1 Mid-West Regional-bound UConn Huskies squad. 1992: Participated in games for the Mat Su Miners of the Alaskan Baseball League.

On UConn’s first-ever Big East Baseball Championship squad (1990), the shortstop was the starting position. He earned a general certificate of advanced graduate study from Salem State University in educational leadership and administration.

The popular Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School principal Paul Funk will begin his new position as principal of Duxbury High School on July 1. In 2001, Funk started working at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. He worked as a teacher, a coach, and the athletic director before taking the reins as administrator.

In 2011 and 2017, the New England Patriots selected him as their Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year, respectively. Funk resides in Duxbury with his wife and three children. One of the children previously attended a public school in Duxbury, where two of the children now go.
