Owen Grubb Race Accident: Cause of Death – What Happened?

The cross-country team member was killed after the district race on Saturday, and the Minerva Local school community is mourning his passing.

Junior Owen Grubb, according to Minerva Local Superintendent Gary Chaddock, passed away following the race. At this moment, the cause of the fatal injuries is unknown.

“Owen was a top student and a shining example in our high school. We are all grieving his death,” said Chaddock. We are holding the entire school community in our thoughts and prayers right now.

Counsellors from the district have come to speak with his teammates and offer mental health support. All children in the district will have access to additional counselling services throughout the week. Grubb finished ninth in the conference at the EBC championships last week with a time of 17:23. JMN offers Owen Grubb’s family our sincere condolences during this trying time.

The OHSAA Eastern District Cross Country and Track and Field President, Dugan Hill, a former Caldwell High School cross country and track and field coach, provided the following remarks on behalf of his district’s leadership team.

The Lions have the support of the entire cross-country community. Other schools from Stark County and elsewhere have been in touch to express their sympathies. Some schools have urged all of their personnel to wear red on Monday in support of Minerva.

Knowing that people are praying for us and making an effort to help our children gives Scott peace, he said. While I was gone, word of what was wrong surely spread around the district meeting before I left to accompany Owen to the hospital. With our kids and parents, all of the teams formed a large circle and prayed for Owen.
