Who Was Nikki Mccray?

McCray-Penson had a distinguished career at Collierville High School near Memphis before winning twice the SEC Player of the Year award while playing for Tennessee in 1994 and 1995.

After playing, she coached for 16 years, earning her a spot in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

During her coaching career, she worked as Dawn Staley’s assistant at South Carolina and held the head coaching positions at Old Dominion and Mississippi State.

McCray, a guard from the University of Tennessee, was 5 feet 11 inches (1.80 meters) tall. She played for many WNBA clubs, including the Chicago Sky, Washington Mystics, Indiana Fever, Phoenix Mercury, and San Antonio Silver Stars.

McCray was chosen three times to the WNBA All-Star teams in 1999, 2000, and 2001 due to her remarkable abilities. She accumulated 2,550 points throughout her career.

McCray began coaching after a successful playing career and is currently an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina. She was reunited with her former teammate, Dawn Staley, the head coach. Thus, it was a comfortable setting for her. McCray adopted her coaching role and found a new home at the University of South Carolina.
