Mikeal’s father, Mario Maglieri, was a pivotal part of the history of Rainbow, but in recent times, Mikeal, usually found during the afternoon on the patio, engaged in conversation with patrons and friends, continued his father’s legacy.
From the start, the whiskey A Go Go was established and became a home for maintaining the rock ‘n’ roll culture of Los Angeles. The place became a nocturnal environment for music enthusiasts, including multiple brands, Guns N Roses, the Byrds, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin. By 1996, whiskey became a house band and became open for every band that performed there for two consecutive sets of night. Whiskey opened for bands including the Turtles, Captain Beef heart and his magic band, Johnny Rivers and Buffalo Springfield.
Mario Maglieri, with Whiskey co-founders Lou Adler, Elmer Valentine established the Rainbow Bar and Grill that was inaugurated with the Elton John party. Rainbow then became a place where friendships had been cultivated, and bonds were made and became a home place for many famous musicians that maintain the characteristics of Los Angeles music.
Maglieri was not only an owner of the Rainbow, but he was the spirit of the Sunset Strip due to his cherished and warm personality. He has gone, but his music enthusiastic spirit will continue to cherish the rainbow bar and resonate with its rock n roll music.
